St Ives Town Centre Walk instructions
- Starting at the Bus Station, cross Market Road at the pelican crossing heading West towards Market Square.
- Cross over to the South side of the square and walk West towards The Free Church. It's tall spire is unmissable. On the right in the centre of the square you'll pass the war memorial and Oliver Cromwell's statue. On the left you'll pass the Red House, the Robin Hood, the Town Hall and the Golden Lion. Take the opportunity to look inside the Free Church.
- Turn left just after the church and walk down Free Church Passage. You'll pass Quayside gallery before reaching The Quay. From here you have an excellent view of the Bridge, and the refurbished Mill buildings across the river.
- Walk along the quay and take the opportunity to enjoy the river, and feed the ducks if you wish. Connies Traditional Tearoom is located right on the quay-side.
- From the bridge you have views of Hemingford meadows and the Dolphin Hotel opposite and looking back the quay and Bridge Street. Take the opportunity to explore the Bridge Chapel. You may need to fetch the key if it is locked.
- Turn around and head North up Bridge Street. There are several restaurants in Bridge Street. Just before you get to the end turn left down Merryland. You'll pass The Nelson's Head Pub on the left.
- Emerging from Merryland you'll find yourself on The Broadway. On the right is the Jubilee fountain. Walk down The Broadway past the Rowing Club, Floods Tavern and Club Ice.
- Just before you reach The Waits, you'll come to the Norris Museum on the left. Take the chance to go inside if it's open.
- From the Norris Musem continue down The Waits. This is a branch off the main river where boats often moor. It gets it's name from the fact that it was used as the waiting point for boats in transit through St Ives.
- Carrying on West, follow the footpath signs towards the Parish Church. Walk around the Church and if it's open take the opportunity to explore inside.
- On the Western side of the Parish Church you'll see the bridge crossing to Holt Island. If you have the time and inclination, and it's open, you can detour to explore Holt Island. Note that the path is not paved, although there is a board walk around the island.
- Retrace you steps back towards The Waits. On your left, about 100m up the road as you leave the path you'll see The Aviator. Head back toward the town centre, staying on the left hand side of the road opposite the river. You will pass the Methodist Church on your left. Take the opportunity to detour and explore Coach Mews and the other alleys. At the end of the Broadway you'll see Piggott's Jewellers ahead.
- Staying to the left of the central "island" continue towards the Market Hill along Crown street. You'll pass The Royal Oak on your left, and Bridge Street on the right before reaching Market Hill.
- Continue down the Market Hill on your return to the Bus Station and the end of the walk. On the way you'll pass the Corn Exchange where there is more than likely some fleamarket taking place, and The White Hart pub.
- If you visit on a Bank Holiday Monday you can experience one of St Ives' market days. The market stalls fill Market Hill spilling all the way up to the end of Station Road and including the Bus Station.
