Over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of July, the annual St Ives Carnival was held. It was blessed by a break in the weather which was overcast to sunny and not too cold.

Mayoral car

The Carnival started at 12:00 with a procession from Hillrise, through the town centre and ending up in Warner's Park.

This year the turnout seemed even bigger than before with floats and displays from all kinds of organisations from young to old.

The procession was lead off by the mayoral car followed by the marching band, the carnival queen and princesses and the twirlers, and then all the floats and displays, with the rescue services bringing up the rear.

Prizes were awarded for the best floats and groups in various categories. Prizes were presented by the mayor Cllr Luter.

The overall winner was Wheatfields Junior school with their "Pirates of the Carribean" float.

After the procession the afternoon was given over to all sorts of entertainment and activites. One could relax under the trees with friends and something to eat and drink, or browse around the dozens of stalls looking for a bargin or promoting various charity and community groups.

For the children there were the fair rides and various games to play.

There were two arenas with non-stop entertainment including: Dog agility show, dancing and music.
