Over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of July, the annual St Ives Carnival was held. The weather over the weekend was warm and sunny with temperatures in the mid-twenties.

The Carnival started at 12:00 with a procession from Hillrise, through the town centre and ending up in Warner's Park.

Once again there was an excellent turnout with floats and displays from all kinds of organisations from young to old.

The procession was lead off by the marching band followed by the mayoral car, the carnival queen and princesses and the twirlers, and then all the floats and displays.

This year the carnival queen was Mary Cracknell and the two princesses Ketrina Marshall and Emma Koch. They are pictured below at the presentation ceremony.

Prizes were awarded for the best floats and groups in various categories. Prizes were presented by the deputy mayor Cllr Luter.

The overall winner was St Ives U Supporters

The school floats category was won by Westfield Junior school, second Burleigh Playgroup and third Wingfield Junior school.

The adult category was won by St Ives U Supporters, second Magpas and third St Ives Trefoil Guild.

Music group
Nero float

The walking group was won by the Folk Music group, second SIMADS and third St Ives Twirlers.

The trade category was won by Inchcape Vauxhaul, second Nero's and third Bennet Saunders.

The community group was won by St John Ambulance, second Longbow Public House and third Gateway scouts.

Fair rides
Comedian

After the procession the afternoon was given over to all sorts of entertainment and activites. One could relax under the trees with friends and something to eat and drink, or browse around the dozens of stalls looking for a bargin or promoting various charity and community groups.

For the children there were the fair rides and various games to play.

There were two arenas with non-stop entertainment including: Knights of the Crusade, Guitart School of Dance, Bootz and Shootz, Eastern Dancing, Masterson School of Irish Dancing and The Sabbetella Arabic Dance Group.
