Over the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of July, the annual St Ives Carnival was held. The weather over the weekend was mixed and cool with rain showers. Despite the weather the carnival was even bigger and better than the previous year.

The carnival started with the usual float parade through the centre of town ending at Warner's Park where the carnival princess was crowned. The Park was packed with fairground rides, stalls, games and an arena where a number of events took place during the day. John Suter played the role of carnival compare in coat tail and tall hat. |

The Arena events included a number of dance items, including this show by The Guitart School of Dance. ... including a solo piece by dancer Jo Walters. |

Live jazz was provided between events. The vikings laid on mock battles using authentic weapons and dress. |

... and lots of mock deaths in the battles! Outside of the area the Vikings had set up a small encampment, showing the way of life, including various crafts and day-to-day activities. |

There was even a Viking baby present! There was also a falconry display with various birds being flown live in the arena. |

Meanwhile around the stalls and fair there was all sorts of fun and merriment, including throwing wet sponges at the conoeist (Malcolm) on one of the Scout stalls. Sunday 22nd was a day for music in the park. It was an opportunity for local bands to come and play to friendly crowds. |
